Design Promotion attended the European Press Conference of the 2019 World Industrial Design Conference and International Design World Expo (2019 WIDC & IDWE) held in Vienna, Austria, on March 29th, 2019. The organizing committee of WIDC expects Design Promotion to contribute to the WIDC & IDWE 2019 which will be held in Yantai later this year in China.
The Press Conference attracted nearly 100 guests of 28 design organizations and institutions across 10 countries and regions, bringing together experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and government leaders from all over the world to discuss and reach consensus on a series of activities to promote cooperation in the field of global design and to build a platform for cooperation in global design innovation and development. In the meantime, it is the first announced in the Press Conference that 2019 WIDC & IDWE will be held in Yantai, China, in October 2019, which will gather powerful international design resources, enhance the innovation of industrial design and build an agglomeration platform for global industrial design innovation resources.
Foundation for Design Promotion in Europe and China (Stichting voor Design Promotion in Europa en China) is to promote and stimulate the cooperation between Europe and China in the design and creative industries as well as in related education and research, and to promote and stimulate the cooperation in design and creativity among companies, education and research institutions, and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The foundation tries to achieve its goal by motivating companies, education and research institutions, and governmental and non-governmental organizations in Europe and in China to cooperate and to provide support, by 1) organizing activities such as visits, symposiums, conferences, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, competitions and awards, 2)providing students and researchers with scholarships and funds, 3) setting up, organizing or providing support for courses, training and other educational programs, 4) initiating and supporting cooperative entities and organizations such as design museums and showroom shops, and 5) offering help and agency in bridging design, manufacturing and marketing, and in bridging education, research and industry, in and between Europe and China, through online and offline channels.

We are aiming to build performative musical instruments and installations that allow for GMIS principles to be implemented in a group setting. Overall, a networked multi-instrument setting will be implemented by using OOCSI as a communication layer, and Processing clients for sensors/interactive front-ends and MIDI
translation.
The music or sound will be generated by a MIDI-capable sequencer (e.g., Logic Pro X or Ableton Live) with multi-track audio instruments, effects and audio tracks – which is connected to the OOCSI-MIDI bridge. Processing serves as the basis for implementing interactive clients that might connect to external sensors such as Arduino-connected simple sensing modalities or complex sensors
such as Kinect, Leap Motion or else.
From Oct 26 to Nov, 36 students and 10 teachers from 4 universities (Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Jiangnan University (JU), Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA), Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJGSU) and Sanming University (SU) joined a two-week international workshop in Taicang, China, in the theme “AFFECTION”, designing for social interaction in public spaces, combining physical art forms with digital projections, using techniques and elements inspired by performance arts. In 11 extensive working days and nights, the workshop went through first hands-on lectures on performance theory and its application in design, creative programming and projection mapping, and cardboard modelling, then five design iterations that always finished with prototypes, presentations and feedback sessions. The results were five design concepts, beautifully demonstrated with working prototypes at the final exhibition that attracted visitors from Taicang and Wuxi as well as local television and newspaper.
